The installer has insufficient privileges

Hello,

"The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Syncfusion Essential Studio Control Panel 25.1.35."

I'm getting this error even when I have "Create Start Menu Shortcut" unchecked. This results in installation failure.

Hi Dean,

The error message you are seeing indicates that the installer does not have sufficient privileges to access the specified directory.
To resolve this issue, you can try temporarily disabling any antivirus or security software that may be interfering with the installation on the machine.

If the issue still not resolved, Could you please share the following details it would help us to investigate the problem further.

1. Please share information about the gatherlog tool so that we can investigate the reported issue further.
   https://support.syncfusion.com/kb/article/2865/gather-log-file
2. Installed Visual Studio versions.
3. Windows OS version(Run-> Type ‘winver’

Hi Prashanth, thanks for your reply. 

Installer was trying to add shortcuts to my Start Menu and it should not be doing that when "Create Start Menu Shortcut" is unchecked. WHe That's all I reported.

We are unable to reproduce the reported issue from our side. We can able to proceed with installation when the Create Start Menu Shortcut checkbox is unchecked. 

 

Please share the following details to investigate the reported issue from our side.

Hi Mohammed, 

Just to report the new 26.x installer has the same issue. Even when "Create Start Menu Shortcut" checkbox is unchecked the installer adds shortcuts to Start Menu and it fails when I change permissions on Start Menu folder not to allow writing to the folder. Please note in screenshot below that Write permission to the folder is denied.

We can reproduce the reported issue and we have logged a bug task for this.

We will include the fix for this issue in the upcoming 2024 Vol 2 SP release.
