We have published the official Road Map for our upcoming Volume 2 release, which is scheduled for June 27, 2014. Volume 2 will bring a lot of exciting updates to all our major platforms, including JavaScript, WinRT, WPF, Silverlight, ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Web Forms, Windows Phone, and Windows Forms. The major highlights of Volume 2 will include two completely new suites of components for ASP.NET Web Forms and Windows Store universal apps.
The ASP.NET Web Forms framework was officially released 12 years back, but it still remains one of the most popular frameworks for developing web applications. The popularity of this framework, especially in enterprise application development, can be attributed to the unmatched productivity it offers. Most aspects of the ASP.NET framework itself have matured over the years with several enhancements, but one area that has not kept up is the server controls.
Most of the custom server controls on the market still use outdated server-side rendering technologies and do not utilize the full potential of client-side rendering enhancements available in all modern browsers.
At Syncfusion, we’ve taken up the challenge and are creating a completely new suite of ASP.NET Web Forms controls that are fully rendered on the client-side to achieve the best possible performance and user experience. We have also ensured that developer productivity is not compromised in any way since all controls offer a rich design-time experience and let developers configure in C# or VB.NET.
One of the most exciting announcements from Build 2014 was the introduction of universal apps that let developers build both phone and tablet applications from a single code base. At Syncfusion, we started building controls for universal apps right from the day of the announcement. Our initial release, included in Volume 2, will have more than 30 controls for universal apps, including advanced controls like charts and grids.
Windows Forms—our market-leading, flagship platform—also receives many major updates in Volume 2. Several new controls are being introduced, including a map control, radial menu, rating control, and hub tile. Also, you’ll be able to build responsive, touch-friendly applications using Windows Forms.
All XAML platforms—including WinRT, Windows Phone, WPF, and Silverlight—also receive significant feature updates, like the addition of 3-D scatter, line, and area charts.
