Hello (Real) World

A Syncfusion intern transforms with company

Like every college senior entering the fall semester, I was looking for an internship to end my college career with a bang, but I did not know where to begin. For weeks, I read through countless applications around the Triangle –the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill area in North Carolina—but nothing sounded like an internship where I could really put the marketing tools I learned in school to use. Then I found Syncfusion; little did I know I was about to embark on a life-changing experience. I soon learned that Syncfusion is not only a .NET trailblazer, but one of the fastest growing companies in the development world. In a little under a year, I have watched Syncfusion spread its .NET wings by creating new products like Orubase, increasing their Essential Studio® Enterprise platform coverage to include JavaScript, and adding hundreds of icons to Metro Studio.

As I opened the door to the Syncfusion office on my first day as an intern in August 2012, I noticed the bright orange and navy blue Syncfusion logo on the wall. “Syncfusion components are the ‘Legos’ that allow developers to build their apps creatively and easily,” my new employer explained as she studied my confused expression. We walked through the halls, listening to a soft buzz of excitement about the newest edition of Essential Studio® Enterprise Edition 2012, Volume 3. Later, I would experience the enthusiasm surrounding the increase in Windows 8-style icons in the upcoming release of Metro Studio 2 that month, and a brand new product, Orubase, was also in the works. By the end of the day I was sharing a growing feeling of anticipation with the other employees.

Essential Studio® Enterprise Edition is our flagship suite, and during my time at Syncfusion, the number of platforms the suite covers has increased from seven to nine. In the past, Syncfusion products have been focused on .NET development platforms, including ASP.NET, WinRT, and Windows Phone 8, all of which are included in Essential Studio®. However, the recent introduction of JavaScript controls has extended our line-of-business development experience to all web developers, including those looking for strong client-side components. Considering the demand for our free e-books on JavaScript and jQuery, this was a natural extension for the company. The addition of JavaScript controls has been especially fun for me as a member of the marketing team, as we now have a fresh and interesting product that provides answers many customers were looking for.

Like Essential Studio®, Metro Studio has expanded significantly since its first release, which included 600 free icons. In a little over a year, the number of icons available has increased to over 2,500. Users can customize icons in a variety of colors, fonts, and symbols to suit their needs. We use Metro Studio ourselves in everything from press releases to case studies. My favorite part is the search bar, which makes finding the right icon easy and fast. Type in a word, and it will filter thousands of icons to give you a wide selection based on your query.

Orubase is the only mobile-application development framework on the market designed so .NET developers can easily build hybrid mobile applications with just a few clicks of the mouse. These applications can be used on the iOS, Android, and Windows Phone platforms and will retain a native UI. A fun fact about Orubase is that it was also used to build the iOS and Android mobile applications for Syncfusion’s online support system Direct-Trac, which are available in the Apple App Store and Google Play store, respectively. When I heard our application was available for these platforms, I was blown away because I knew that meant it had the potential to help millions of our customers around the world.

When I first joined the marketing team at Syncfusion, I never realized I would be on the fast track to a career. Now, almost a year later, I still look forward to walking through the door of Syncfusion each morning because there is no such thing as a typical day. With quarterly Essential Studio® releases, continuous updates to products, and collaborations with our development partners, there is always a unique project to work on. I have been able to participate in everything from writing press releases to newsletters, and I’ve been able to work with numerous code camps and agencies. Though we are busy at Syncfusion, we are never bored, and we work hard every day to ensure our customers are always aware of these inspiring changes and additions.
