What’s New in Document Processing Libraries: 2025 Volume 1

Syncfusion Document Processing Libraries allow developers to create, read, write, and convert PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files programmatically in .NET Framework, .NET Core, ASP.NET Core, UWP, Xamarin, WinUI, .NET MAUI, and Flutter apps without requiring Microsoft Office or Adobe Reader.

This blog briefly describes the new features and enhancements introduced in our Document Processing Libraries for the 2025 Volume 1 release.

.NET PDF Library

The .NET PDF Library now supports the following new features:

PDF accessibility enhancements

The following features ensure that the PDF documents meet the latest accessibility standards:

• PDF/UA-2 accessibility standard: Create PDF documents that comply with PDF/UA-2, ensuring usability for assistive technologies and universal accessibility.

• Well-tagged PDF: Generate well-structured, properly tagged PDFs that enhance the reading experience for assistive technologies by facilitating better navigation and content interpretation.

• Custom role map: Define custom role mappings for tagged elements to improve PDF accessibility flexibility. This allows tag roles to be customized to better align with specific accessibility requirements and document structures.

ZUGFeRD 2.3.2

The .NET PDF Library now supports ZUGFeRD 2.3.2 standard. This standard allows seamless creation and processing of invoices that integrate human-readable and machine-readable data within a single PDF. This feature ensures compatibility with electronic invoicing systems and regulatory compliance.

Hatch brush support

We can now add hatch brush patterns to PDF graphics. Users can fill shapes, text, and other graphical elements with customizable hatched patterns, enhancing visual presentation and design flexibility.

Restrict HTTP requests when converting HTML-to-PDF

This security enhancement allows users to block HTTP requests during the HTML-to-PDF conversion process, ensuring greater control over data security and preventing unauthorized external content retrieval.

.NET Word Library

The .NET Word Library delivers the following vivid features:

Create, modify, and remove SmartArt graphics

The .NET Word Library now allows users to create, edit, and remove SmartArt graphics in Word documents, simplifying the generation of process flows and structured documents.

• Create: Programmatically insert 134 types of SmartArt, including hierarchical diagrams, process flows, cycle diagrams, and more, to visually represent information.
• Edit: Modify SmartArt by updating text, adding nodes, and applying formatting.
• Remove: Remove specific nodes or the entire SmartArt without affecting other document content.

Word-to-PDF and image conversion enhancements

The following enhancements are now added in the Word-to-PDF and image conversion.

• SmartArt graphics: Preserves SmartArt graphics accurately when converting to PDF or image formats.

• EMF+ and EMF+ Dual: Preserves the EMF+ and EMF+ Dual images accurately during Word to PDF and image conversion, ensuring that vector-based diagrams remain clear and correctly represented.

Improved TXT to Word conversion

We’ve improved the performance of the .NET Word Library while converting large TXT files to Word documents, achieving 10x faster conversion for files with 100,000+ lines. This enables seamless processing of extensive text content.

.NET Excel Library

The .NET Excel Library has the following new updates:

Excel-to-PDF and image enhancements

Users can now accurately preserve EMF+ and EMF+ Dual images during Excel-to-PDF conversions. Excel documents containing vector-based diagrams can be converted to PDFs while maintaining clarity, ensuring precise representation in manuals and reports.

Performance improvement

The Excel (XlsIO) Library now performs significantly faster while creating, reading, and saving Excel documents. The following benchmark demonstrates the performance improvements observed when opening, reading, and saving an Excel document containing 150 rows and 10,000 columns of data across various data types:

• Text: 60%
• DateTime: 50%
• Number: 60%
• Boolean: 43%
• Formula: 90%

.NET PowerPoint Library

PowerPoint-to-PDF and image conversion enhancements

The .NET PowerPoint Library now includes the following enhancements when converting PowerPoint presentations to PDF or image formats:

• Shapes as PDF form fields: We can preserve Text Box shapes as PDF text form fields during PowerPoint to PDF conversion. This enables the creation of editable PDFs from presentation files, so you can generate editable forms for surveys, apps, and feedback that users can fill out digitally.

• EMF+ and EMF+ Dual images: This enhancement accurately preserves EMF+ and EMF+ Dual images while converting to PDF or image formats. PowerPoint presentations containing vector-based diagrams are converted to PDFs while maintaining clarity, ensuring accurate representation in manuals and reports.
